A study on "Risk Management" applying to achievement of effective seismic disaster measure for infrastructures is conducted in our laboratory.
In Japan, occurrence of several large earthquakes in the near future has been concerned; hence early seismic retrofitting of infrastructures is required from viewpoints of restricting seismic effect on disaster restoration, securing lifeline, social economy, and so on. The priority of the seismic retrofits, however, is a controversial issue, because, against large quantity of infrastructures, public investment for disaster prevention and executing term of the measures are limited.
Therefore, proposing a way to achieve effective seismic retrofits of infrastructure from the feature of "Risk" with considering both seismic hazards of the target structure and its damage effects, which affects disaster restoration, securing lifeline, social economy, and so on, is the main theme of this study. Then part of the study results has been already applied to specific seismic retrofit project for infrastructures, such as a long water canal system supplying drinking, industrial and agricultural water.
