Our research field is power electronics. The power electronics is used to move electrical devises around us such as a personal computer and an air conditioner. For example, considering a battery charger for a PC, the AC voltage of a power supply is converted to the DC voltage of the PC's battery by using the power electronics technology. As in the example above, the power electronics is the technology required to generate any desired voltage type (AC or DC) for electrical devises from the AC voltage of the power supply by a power converter with semiconductor devises.
In recent year, towards carbon neutrality, the spread and new development of electrical vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy is desired. Power electronics is also applied to these new electrical technologies. Therefore, the further development of power electronics technology is expected to protect the future global environment.
Our laboratory is researching about the "high-frequency isolated power converters" which is one of the power electronics technologies. The high-frequency isolated power converter is the power converter with a high-frequency transformer. Our laboratory has proposed new circuit configuration and control method of high-frequency isolated power converter for high-power applications to achieve the downsized and high-efficient power converter. I think the applications of this research is the quick battery charger for EV and the DC distribution systems.
