Research fields

My main research fields are lightning physics and PV assisted power network. The following are our current research topics. High-speed optical observation of lightning attachment processes. Progression mechanism of lightning discharge leaders. Development of new methods for measuring 3D space charge distribution underneath a thunderstorm. Development of lightning discharge control methods. Reduction of PV various adverse impacts on power network. Now I am serving as the president of International Commsion on Atmospheric Electricity (ICAE), and I am very positive to promote international cooperation on lightning research and atmospheric electricity. For example, each summer my students and I go to Florida to participate comprehensice lightning observation experiments hosted by US lightning research scientists. In this winter, two US lightning research scientists will bring their most advanced lightning observation equipment to join our lightning observation experiments in Ishikawa prefecture designed to better understand how lightning strike and damage large-scale wind power generation systems.
