Metal complexes are composed of metal ions and organic ligands, and they can exhibit various functions. Our research focuses on developing new functional metal complexes related to color and luminescence properties. Currently, we are mainly working on two topics:
1) Stimuli-Responsive Metal Complexes
Stimuli-responsive materials are materials that change their properties (e.g. color and luminescence) in response to external stimuli such as heat, light and organic vapors. These materials have attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications as sensors or switching devices. Among them, assembled metal complexes are of particular interest. Their stimuli-responsive behavior arises from changes in electronic structure caused by structural rearrangements induced by external stimuli. In our research, we design organic ligands in metal complex to control assembled structures and develop new functional stimuli-responsive metal complexes.
2) Soft Materials with Metal Complexes and Plastic Crystals
Recently, soft materials have drawn considerable attention due to their potential applications in wearable and portable devices. To develop new functional soft materials, our research focuses on plastic crystals, a class of soft crystalline solids, and combines them with metal complexes.
