Research themes

The two main research themes I am currently working on are as follows.

(1) Teleoperating system using drones

(2) Gesture recognition using deep learning

In addition, I have studied the following topics.

(3) Gait motion simulator that can be used in fMRI environment

(4) Hammering and visual inspection drone for bridge inspection

(1) Teleoperating system using drones

I work on a teleoperating system for construction machines using a multi-rotor drone. Conventional teleoperation systems cannot freely change the viewpoint of a camera that takes images of the work site. This research aims to improve the efficiency of teleoperation by using a drone that can hover at any position in three dimensions, allowing the operator to see the work site from any viewpoint without any blind spots.

(2) Gesture recognition using deep learning

I study gesture recognition technology with the aim of developing a system that enables ordinary workers to intuitively give movement instructions to a robot that transfers parts within a factory. We use deep learning to realize intuitive instruction methods such as pointing.

(3) Gait motion simulator that can be used in fMRI environment

I have been researching and developing a device to present a gait motion to a subject while measuring brain activity using fMRI. fMRI measures changes in the magnetic field in a high magnetic field environment, so we developed a pneumatically driven device made of stainless steel and resin that does not adversely affect the measurement and measured brain activity.

(4) Hammering and visual inspection drone for bridge inspection

I have researched and developed an inspection drone that enables periodic bridge inspections (hammering and visual inspections) to be conducted by a small number of people at a low cost. A stable control method of the tip position and an autonomous control method in non-GPS environments were studied.
