Research fields

We focus on motion analysis using machine learning and aim at developing the applications. For example, we are working on bio-signal robot control and sports skill evaluation system.

Bio-signal robot control is a prospective technology for welfare. It requires integrated technology such as bio-signal measurement, machine learning due to estimating human intention, and assist devices for motion support, environmental control, and communication. So far, we have achieved operating a mobile robot based on electroencephalogram (EEG), and a robot arm based on electrooculogram (EOG).

Sports skill evaluation system is designed for young athletes to improve their sports skills. It consists of sporting goods with built-in sensors and skill evaluation using machine learning. So far, we focus on a 9 axis motion sensor (i.e., a 3-axis acceleration sensor, a 3-axis geomagnetic sensor, and a 3-axis gyro sensor) and have developed a sensor ball for analyzing throwing motion and a sensor shoe for analyzing walking.
