All living organisms prolifrate with duplicating their genomic DNA. When DNA damage occured, it should be precisely repaired to the original form. These phenomena proceed through the coordinated action of numerous proteins. However, if individual proteins do not work well, they not only cause DNA mutations, but often have serious consequences, including cell death and cancer. I am attempting to elucidate the detailed molecular mechanisms of DNA replication and repair by focusing on structural and functional analyses of the proteins. I am especially interested in the unique mechanisms of the maintenace of genetic information in Archaea, including thermophiles and methanogens.
