Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) is employed for aircraft structures because of high specific stiffness/strength. Typical CFRP processing methods are processing method is expensive, slow, labor-intensive, and limited in size. Also, recycling and shelf life of thermoset prepregs have limitations. Therefore, the development of inexpensive and out-of-autoclave processing technology for CFRP is a significant key factor to boost the availability of CFRP while maintaining adequate strength.
CFRP is adopted for automobile body to achieve weight reduction and fuel efficiency improvement. However, the joining technique between a CFRP laminate and metal is essential for practical applications of automobile structure. It is significantly important to establish an economical and high-speed hole-making process for CFRP laminates while maintaining structural strength and durability. In parallel, it is necessary to assure of CFRP product quality such as strength, stiffness. Defects in the products are caused by the skill of the working people, leading to the unexpected damage and failure of the products. Therefore, the influence of the worked surface quality to the mechanical performance of CFRP plates is investigated.
